So, you're ready to take the giant leap and move to Mauritius? Time to choose where you will now be calling home.

Finding the correct region for you may initially appear to be a daunting prospect. How close to your workplace or uni should you be? What if you don’t drive? Is public transport reliable? Let us see if we can shed some light on your questions.

So, Mauritius is tiny, right? Ergo it should be easy to get around on public transport? As a general rule, yes, but some regions are more accessible than others. Our advice is the time tested method of the test run; try the bus or drive during rush hour.

Student Islander Life-style

Mauritius is aiming to become an education hub in the Indian Ocean. Many international Universities are opening campuses in the country as well as locally founded ones. Some propose on-site accommodation, while others are close to residential areas.

The central region of the island is home to the University of Mauritius and also Curtin Mauritius. The latter offers accommodation on campus.

Moka is noted for its smart city. You’d be close to the regions of Rose-Hill, Ébène and Quatre-Bornes, where rent is affordable.

The West of the island is a favourite with students. The Middlesex University Mauritius campus is close to the Unicity student residences. There, you’re within easy access to restaurants, gyms, and bars and a short ride to the nightlife and clubbing spots. Secure student accommodation ranging from the frugal to the outlandishly lavish is available to suit your budget.

Being in the West, you’ll enjoy proximity to the popular beach village of Flic en Flac, which holds a special place in my heart.
